About papatto

Small tasks should be quick, and safe.

papatto is a free collection of tools for everyday little jobs, like images, PDFs, text and quick calculations, that run entirely inside your browser. No ads, no file uploads, no account. Here’s why we built it this way.

  • No ads
  • No uploads
  • No sign-up

Why we made this

You just want to shrink an image, or merge two PDFs. A simple job. But the free tool site you found in search had other plans. Maybe one of these sounds familiar:

The usual trouble with free tools
  • So many ads you can’t tell where to click
  • The big “Download” button turns out to be an ad
  • A countdown timer makes you sit and wait
  • Your files have to go to some unknown company’s server
  • At the very last step, it asks you to sign up or give your email

The upload part always bothered us most. Work documents, family photos: they leave your hands and land on someone else’s server. How long do they stay there? Who can look at them? Are they used for something? Even after reading the fine print, it’s hard to tell. You get the tool for “free”, but you’re never quite sure what you’re giving in return.

Yet today’s browsers are remarkably capable. Converting images, rearranging PDF pages, counting characters: all of it can happen right on your own device, without asking a faraway server for help. So why not build tools that never take your files in the first place?

That’s how papatto was born. No ads. No uploads. No sign-up. Open it, get the job done, close it. Just like the name says (“papatto” is Japanese for “in a snap”), it’s built to be over in a flash.

No more hunting for a different site for every task

One site for merging PDFs, another for shrinking images, yet another for counting words. Every new task means another search, another unfamiliar site, and the same questions all over again: “Is this one safe?” “Where do I even click?” It wears you out.

papatto gathers the small tasks people do most into one place. Every tool looks the same, works the same way, and keeps the same promises. Once you’ve used one, you already know how to use the rest.

  • Search by what you want to do

Type what you need, like “compress image”, into the search at the top of the page.

  • Find tools from a file

Pick a file and you’ll see only the tools that work with it. It only checks the file type and never reads what’s inside.

  • Star your favorites

Star the tools you use often and they’ll be right there on the home page next time. That list stays on your device, too.

Our promises

  • No ads, ever

No banners, no videos, no misleading buttons. The only things on screen are the things you need for the job.

  • Your files and text stay put

Everything you pick or type is processed right on your device. None of it travels across the internet.

  • Even we can’t see your files

Your files never reach our server, so even the people who built papatto have no way to look at them. It’s not a promise not to look. It’s built so that looking is impossible.

  • No sign-up, no login

We never ask for an email address or a password. Open the page and start.

  • One job, done well

Each tool does one thing. No confusing settings, just the shortest path to getting it done.

  • On your phone, in your language

Works the same on a computer or a phone, in any of 10 languages.

Your files don’t go anywhere

Here’s how papatto differs from a typical online tool.

A typical online tool

First, your device receives just the tool’s code

Inside your device
  1. Pick a file
  2. Processed on your device
  3. Save it
Your file stays here

All that comes from papatto’s server is the tool’s code. Traffic flows one way, toward you. Your files never travel back the other way.

Made for people like you, for moments like these

Here are some of the moments where we hope papatto helps most.

  • Handling files that belong to others

Client documents, confidential reports, PDFs full of personal details. Even files you’re not allowed to upload anywhere can be handled without leaving your device.

  • Teachers and office work

Number the pages of a handout, or check the length of an essay or form. It’s fine even if a class list or other private details are mixed in.

  • Worried about photo locations

Phone photos can record exactly where they were taken. Remove that before you post online or send them to someone.

  • When you’re in a hurry

Right before a meeting, minutes before a deadline, or out and about with only your phone. No sign-up, no waiting. Open it and you’re done.

  • On devices where you can’t install apps

A work computer that blocks new software, or a phone you don’t want to fill with more apps. All you need is a browser.

  • Things you’d never put online

ID cards, family photos, contracts. The more private something is, the more reason to handle it right where it is.

See it for yourself

You don’t have to take our word that nothing is sent. Anyone can check, using tools already built into the browser.

  1. 1.Watch the network

On a computer, open your browser’s developer tools (F12 in most browsers) and keep the “Network” tab open while you add a file to a tool. You won’t see your file being sent anywhere. You may see the tool’s code being loaded from this site, but that traffic flows toward you.

On the right is the Network panel in the developer tools. Even after adding two images, the only new rows are things being loaded, like blob: entries (data inside your device). Nothing sends your files out.
  2. 2.Use it offline

Open a tool and use it once. Then switch on airplane mode or disconnect from the internet, and add another file of the same kind. As long as the page stays open, it keeps working, which shows that nothing is being sent out. (You’ll need a connection to load the page again.)

After the first image is compressed, the developer tools are switched to “Offline”. The second image still gets compressed as usual.

What we want to be upfront about

  • When you open a page, the hosting server (Vercel) keeps an ordinary access log: IP address, browser type, the page you opened, and the time. It doesn’t include any files or text you put into the tools.
  • On the “Request a tool” and “Report a problem / Feedback” forms, what you write and send does reach our server.
  • We use one cookie to remember your display language. Favorites and recently used tools are saved only on your device.
  • We don’t use ads, third-party analytics, or tracking cookies. Even the fonts are served from this site.

For details, see our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

Let’s make it better, together

papatto grows with the people who use it. “I wish there were a tool for this.” “This would be easier if…” Ideas like these turn into new tools and improvements. We’d love to hear yours.

Only what you write is sent. Your files are never sent.
