Great for
Handouts that need page numbers
Numbered meeting papers and class handouts make “look at the table on page 3” easy to follow, and loose sheets are easy to put back in order.
People who hand out papers at meetings or classes
When a submission must be numbered
For reports and applications that require page numbers. You can add them straight to the PDF, even without the original Word file.
People submitting reports or forms
Continuous numbers for a combined PDF
After putting several documents into one PDF, number the whole thing in one go. For a follow-up document, start where the previous one left off.
People who put documents together
Count from the body, not the cover
Leave page 1 (the cover) blank and count 1, 2, 3… from page 2. You can also show the total, like “1 / 10”.

Good to know before you start
- Numbers are written on top of the page as text. If there is text or a picture where you place them, they may overlap and be hard to read. Flip through the preview before you save.
- PDFs with a password or protection can’t be numbered.
- Only digits and symbols are available (“1”, “- 1 -”, “1 / 10”). Words like “Page” and Roman numerals can’t be added.
About the position and style
The number goes where you choose (top or bottom; left, center or right), a little in from the edge of the page. The text size and the distance from the edge follow the page size, so numbers look about the same on A4 and A3. On pages turned sideways, the number is still placed upright, the way you see the page.
There are three styles: “1”, “- 1 -” and “1 / 10”. The number after the slash is the number on the last page, and it follows along when you skip the cover or change the start number. The original page content isn’t rewritten, so search, copying text and links keep working.
FAQ
Answers to common questions before you start.
Is my PDF sent anywhere?
No. The numbers are added inside your browser on your device, and the PDF is never uploaded to a server.
I don’t want a number on the cover.
Turn on “Don't number the first page (cover)”. Page 2 then gets the number set in “Start at”. If the cover should still count as page 1, set “Start at” to 2.
Can I start from a number other than 1?
Yes. Enter the number you want in “Start at”. Handy when a document continues from a previous one.
Will the original text or images change?
No. The page content stays as it is; only the number text is added on top. Search, copying text and links keep working.
The number overlaps the content.
Try another “Position”, or set “Size” to “Small”. Flip through the preview with the arrows to make sure it doesn’t overlap on other pages either.
What if some pages are landscape?
No problem. Even on rotated pages, the number is placed upright at the position you chose, the way you see the page.
Does the orange frame in the preview end up in the PDF?
No. It only marks where the number is so you can find it on a small screen. The saved PDF gets just the number.
Can I change the color or font of the numbers?
No. They use a dark gray that reads well on white paper and a standard font (Helvetica) that looks the same on every device.
Does it work with password-protected PDFs?
No. PDFs with a password or editing protection can’t be rewritten correctly. Please choose a PDF without protection.
Does it work with long PDFs?
Yes. There’s no page limit, but very large PDFs may take a while depending on your device’s memory.
Is it free?
Yes. No sign-up and no ads.
