Good to know before removing

  • If you organize photos by date or place, keep the originals too. Cleaned photos are saved as separate files.
  • If the date taken is needed, such as for evidence photos, submit them without removing it.
  • Screenshots and images saved from the web rarely contain location data in the first place.

About Exif

Exif is shooting information saved along with a photo: the date taken, camera model and settings, and, if location is turned on, the latitude and longitude where it was taken.

It doesn't show in the picture, so it's easy to miss, but anyone who gets the file can read it. For photos taken at home, it can even hint at your address.

FAQ

Answers to the things people most often wonder about before using it.

Are my photos sent anywhere?

No. Everything happens inside your browser on your own device. Your photos are never uploaded to a server.

What is Exif?

Shooting information saved with a photo, such as the date taken, camera model, settings and location (GPS). It doesn't appear in the picture itself.

How can I check that it's gone?

When processing finishes, each photo shows what was removed. On Windows, right-click the file and open Properties > Details. On Mac, open it in Preview and choose Tools > Show Inspector.

Does quality drop?

No. The image data is left untouched and only details like the location are removed, so the photo looks exactly the same.

Will my photos turn sideways?

No. Orientation information is kept, so portrait photos stay portrait.

Does it work with iPhone photos (HEIC)?

Yes. It removes location and other details while keeping the HEIC format. In browsers other than Safari, showing the photo in the list can take a few seconds.

How do I stop my iPhone adding location?

Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Camera and choose Never. When sharing a photo, you can also turn off location under Options at the top of the share sheet.

Doesn't social media remove location anyway?

Many services remove it when you post, but not all. Location may stay in photos shared by email, chat or cloud storage, so remove it first if you're unsure.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, and no ads.
