Good to know before you start
- “Weekdays only” counts Monday to Friday. Public holidays and year-end holidays aren’t removed, so if you need an exact count of business days, adjust it for your workplace’s days off.
- Legal and contract deadlines sometimes have rules such as “don’t count the first day”. For important deadlines, also check the contract or the official guidance.
- It counts dates only, not times (hours and minutes).
How the days are counted
“Days to go” is the end date minus the start date. If today is Oct 24 and the end date is Oct 31, there are 7 days to go. If the end date is tomorrow, it’s 1 day to go; if it’s today, 0 days. This is the same as subtracting dates in a calendar app or spreadsheet.
When you want to count both the first and the last day — like the 4 days of a 3-night, 4-day trip — turn on “Count the start day” to get one more day. February 29 in leap years is counted as on the calendar, and “Years, months, days” counts whole years first, then months, and gives the rest as days.
FAQ
Answers to the things people most often wonder about when counting days.
Are the dates I enter sent anywhere?
No. All calculations happen in the browser on your device, and the dates you pick are never sent to a server. They’re kept only on this device, for the next time you open the page.
Does “days to go” include today?
Not by default. It’s the end date minus today, so if the end date is tomorrow, it’s “1 day to go”. To count today as a day too, turn on “Count the start day”.
When should I use “Count the start day”?
When you want to count both the first and the last day, as with trips, events, or days of taking medicine. From Oct 1 to Oct 3 is 2 days without it, and 3 days with it.
Can I find out how many days old someone is?
Yes. Pick the date of birth as the start date, then press “Today” for the end date. You’ll see the days that have passed and “X years, X months, X days”.
What happens if I pick a date in the past?
When the end date is before the start date, you still get the days between them, with a line like “Passed 3 days ago” under the number of days.
Can the start date be a day other than today?
Yes. Pick any date in the “Start date” box. To go back to today, press “Today” above the box.
Are leap years counted correctly?
Yes. Years with February 29 are counted as 366 days, just as on the calendar. Dates from the year 1000 to 9999 are supported.
Does “Weekdays only” include public holidays?
Yes. “Weekdays only” is the number of days without Saturdays and Sundays; public holidays and year-end holidays aren’t removed, because holidays differ by country and year.
How are “Years, months, days” counted?
As on the calendar: whole years first, then months, with the rest as days. When a month doesn’t have that day — such as one month after January 31 — the last day of the month is used.
Will my dates still be there next time?
Yes. The dates you pick are remembered only in the browser on this device. If you leave the start date as today, it counts from the day you open the page next time.
Is it free?
Yes. No sign-up, and no ads.
