How to use

  1. 1. Pick a category

Under “Pick a symbol”, tap a category such as “Hearts”, “Arrows” or “Box drawing”. Swipe the row of categories sideways to see more. The symbols in that category appear below.

  2. 2. Click to copy

Tap a symbol to copy it. “Copied ♡” appears at the bottom of the screen. Then touch and hold the text box in your email or social media app and tap “Paste”.

  3. 3. Search by name

Type a word like “arrow”, “circle” or “heart” into the “Search by name” box at the top, and matching symbols appear right away. You can find a symbol by its shape even if you don't know its name.

  4. 4. Combine symbols and copy them all

Every symbol you tap is also added to “Your symbols” above the list. You can type or delete text in the box, and “Copy all” copies everything in it at once.

Good to know before you start

  • Color emoji (like 😀) aren't included. Use your device's emoji keyboard for those.
  • Symbols like ①, Roman numerals and ㎡ may turn into other characters or “?” on older devices and in some email apps.
  • Symbol names can be searched in English (and Japanese). Category names work too, so you can also type “Math” or “Currency”.

About copying symbols and special characters

Most symbols can't be typed straight from a keyboard, and hunting for them in a character map takes time. This tool sorts symbols into 16 categories, such as hearts, arrows, box drawing and units, and copies any of them with a single tap. You can search by English names like “arrow” or “star”, by category name, or by Japanese readings, without worrying about full-width or half-width characters.

Some symbols, like ♥, ☀ and ✔, show up as color emoji on certain devices. This tool copies them with a marker (a variation selector) that asks for the text style, so they're less likely to turn into color emoji even when pasted on an iPhone.

FAQ

Answers to the things people most often wonder about when copying symbols.

Are my searches or the symbols I use sent anywhere?

No. The list of symbols is part of the page, and searching and copying happen entirely in the browser on your device.

How do I paste a copied symbol?

Just like any other paste. On a computer, press Ctrl+V (⌘V on a Mac). On a phone, touch and hold the text box and choose “Paste”.

Can I find a symbol without knowing its name?

Yes. Search by shape words like “circle”, “square”, “triangle” or “star”, or by kinds of symbols like “arrow” or “heart”. You can also browse by category.

Can I copy several symbols at once?

Yes. Every symbol you tap is added to “Your symbols” in order, so “Copy all” copies them in one go. You can also type or delete text in the box.

Where are my recently used symbols saved?

Only in this browser on this device (localStorage). They aren't shared with your other devices. You can remove them with “Clear history” under “Recently used”.

When I paste, the symbol turns into a color emoji.

This tool copies symbols like ♥ and ☀ with a marker that asks for the text style. If you still see an emoji, the app you pasted into is showing it that way. Choosing a similar symbol (like ♡ or ☼) makes that less likely.

Could a symbol show up as “?” or “□” for the person I send it to?

On older devices and in some email apps, the font may not have that character, so it shows as “?” or “□”. For important documents, it's safest to replace symbols like ① or ㎡ with (1) or m2.

My box drawing table doesn't line up.

Box drawing characters line up neatly only in a font where every character has the same width (a monospaced font). Paste them somewhere that uses one, like a plain text editor or a code block.

Are color emoji included?

No. This tool only collects symbols meant to be used as text, not emoji. For emoji, your device's emoji keyboard is the easiest way.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. The symbol buttons are big enough to tap easily, and you can swipe the category buttons sideways to choose one.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, and no ads.
