How to use

  1. 1. Set the time

In the “Time” section below the timer, enter hours, minutes and seconds. You can also tap a button such as “3 min” or “5 min”. The large numbers above change to that time.

  2. 2. Turn on sound and start

Turn on sound with the speaker button at the top right of the large numbers (it starts off). Tap “Start” to begin the countdown, and the ring around the numbers shrinks. When time’s up, “Time’s up!” appears and the alarm sounds. Tap “Stop” to silence it.

  3. 3. Record laps with the stopwatch

Switch to “Stopwatch” above the numbers and tap “Start”. Each time you tap “Lap”, that lap’s time is added to the “Laps” table below the buttons, newest first. Tap “Pause” to stop.

  4. 4. Go full screen

Tap the full screen button at the top right of the large numbers, and only the numbers and buttons fill the screen. You can still tap “Resume” or “Lap” in full screen. Stand your phone up and read it from across the room.

Great for

  • Instant noodles, cooking and steeping tea

Just press “3 min” and “Start”. When you can’t find a kitchen timer, time it right away on your phone or computer.

    Anyone who cooks

  • Breaking up study or work sessions

Work in set blocks, like 25 minutes of focus and a 5-minute break. Even while you work in another tab, you’ll be alerted when time’s up.

    Students and remote workers

  • Keeping time for talks, meetings and speeches

In full screen, the time left can be read from the back of the room. Need more time? “+1 min” adds it in one press.

    Hosts, presenters and teachers

  • Timing runs and practice

Use “Lap” on the stopwatch to record each lap. The fastest and slowest laps are marked, and you can copy the table into your training log.

    Runners, sports clubs and coaches

Good to know before you start

  • On a phone, if the screen turns off or you switch to another app, the browser may pause and the alarm may not sound. For anything important, also set an alarm in your device’s clock app.
  • Sound starts off. To hear the alarm, turn it on with the speaker button, and check your device’s volume and silent mode.
  • Times are shown to 1/100 of a second, but they aren’t accurate enough for official race results.

Why the time doesn’t drift

Many web timers count by subtracting 1 every second, so they gradually fall behind when you switch tabs and the browser throttles them. This timer remembers the exact time it will finish when you start it, and each time it updates, it calculates the difference from the current time. So the time stays accurate even while you’re in another tab or after you reload the page.

The state of the timer and stopwatch, along with your laps, is saved in this browser on your device. If you close the page by accident, open it again to pick up where you left off. You can also use the timer while the stopwatch keeps running.

FAQ

Answers to common questions before you start.

Are my times or records sent anywhere?

No. The timer runs only inside the browser on your device, and your times and laps are never sent to a server.

There’s no sound.

Sound starts off. Turn it on with the speaker button at the top right of the large numbers. Use “Test sound” to check that it plays before you start. You may not hear anything if your device’s volume is at 0 or your iPhone is in silent mode.

Will the alarm go off on time while I’m in another tab?

Yes. The timer remembers when it will finish and calculates from that, so the time doesn’t drift while you’re in another tab. The time left is also shown in the tab title. It can’t alert you once the tab or browser is closed, though.

Can I turn off my phone’s screen?

If the screen turns off or you switch to another app, the browser pauses and the alarm won’t sound in the meantime. When you come back, you’ll be alerted right away if time is up. While the timer is running, the screen is kept from dimming, so it’s best to just leave it open.

Can it vibrate?

Turn on “Vibrate”, and supported devices such as Android phones vibrate when time’s up. Browsers on iPhone don’t support vibration, so it won’t vibrate there.

Can I pause or add time?

Press “Pause” to stop and “Resume” to continue from where you left off. Press “+1 min” while running or paused to add a minute at a time. “Reset” goes back to the time you set.

How many laps can I record?

Up to 999. The table lists the newest first, and with two or more laps, the fastest is marked “Fastest” and the slowest “Slowest”. Use “Copy” to copy the table in a format you can paste into a spreadsheet.

Can I pick up where I left off after closing the page?

Yes. The state of the timer and stopwatch, along with your laps, is saved in this browser on your device. When you open the page again, anything that was running is still running and shows the current time.

Can I use the keyboard?

On a computer, press the Space key to start or pause, L for a lap and R to reset. Press Esc to exit full screen.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, no install and no ads.
