How to use

  1. 1. Enter the total and the number of people

  2. 2. Add another group

Tap “Add another group” to add a group. Enter a name (like “Boss”) and the number of people, then enter how many times a regular share they pay in “Ratio”, such as 1.5. For people who pay a set amount, tap “Fixed amount” and enter the amount per person.

Good to know before you start

  • It doesn’t track who paid for what and settle up between people (no IOU list). It splits a single bill.
  • The amounts and numbers of people you enter aren’t saved. They’re gone when you close the page.
  • It can’t send money. Once you know the amounts, pay with a payment app or however the restaurant accepts payment.

How the bill is split

A regular split is total ÷ number of people, rounded up to a convenient unit such as 1. To have the boss pay more, give regular people a ratio of 1 and the boss a ratio like 1.5. The amount for a ratio of 1 is total ÷ (sum of ratio × people), and each group pays that times its ratio. If some people pay a fixed amount, that is taken off the total first and the rest is split.

Rounding up collects a little extra, and rounding down leaves you a little short. With “Organizer covers the difference” on, everyone else pays an easy amount and the organizer pays (or gets back) the difference, so the amount collected matches the total exactly. The math uses exact fractions, so decimal errors never make it a cent off.

FAQ

Answers to the things people most often wonder about when splitting a bill.

Are the amounts and names I enter sent anywhere?

No. All calculations happen in the browser on your device, and the amounts, numbers of people and group names you enter are never sent to a server.

How do I have the boss or senior members pay more?

Add a group with “Add another group” and enter 1.5 or 2 in “Ratio”. A regular share is 1, and the ratio is how many times that they pay.

Can people who don’t drink pay a set amount?

Yes. Add a group, choose “Fixed amount” and enter the amount per person (for example 20). That is taken off the total first, and the rest is split among everyone else.

How do we cover the guest of honor’s share?

Add a group for the guest of honor and set the ratio to 0. They pay nothing, and their share is split among everyone else.

Should I round up or round down?

When collecting money, rounding up is common because it gives you a little extra. The organizer can hold on to what’s left over or put it toward next time. Rounding down leaves you short, so combine it with “Organizer covers the difference” to match the total exactly.

How does “Organizer covers the difference” work?

One person in the first group becomes the organizer. Everyone else pays the rounded amount, and the organizer pays the difference from the total. When rounding down, the organizer pays a little more; when rounding up, a little less.

The organizer’s amount is negative.

This happens when the rounding unit is large compared with the amount per person. Everyone else overpays, so the organizer would get money back. Choose a smaller unit.

Can I send the result in a chat app?

“Copy result” copies a short message with the total, the number of people and the amount per person for each group. Paste it into WhatsApp, Messenger or any group chat. On a phone, you can also use “Share” to pick an app and send it directly.

Can I type “1,200” or “$1,200”?

Yes. Digit grouping commas, full-width digits and currency signs such as “$” or “€” are fine. Amounts written in words, like “twelve hundred”, aren’t understood, so enter digits such as “1200”.

Is there a limit on the number of people or the amount?

Each group can have up to 999 people, you can have up to 8 groups, and the total can be up to 1 trillion.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, no app to install, and no ads.
