How to use

  1. 1. Enter the players and results

In “Players and results” below the board, each row is one column of the board: a name at the top and a result at the bottom. Type names under “Players (top)” and prizes or blanks under “Results (bottom)”. “Add a player” adds a row, and the − at the end of a row removes it. Paste a list of names and each line becomes one player.

  2. 2. Trace the lines in Ghost Leg

Tap “Trace next” just below the board. Starting with the first player, a line runs down the ladder, and the result it lands on appears in large text. Tap a name at the top to trace that person’s line. “Reveal all” traces everyone left in one go.

  3. 3. Draw tickets in the lucky draw

Choose “Lucky draw” above the board and folded paper tickets appear in a box. Tap “Draw”: the tickets rise one after another, then one is lifted out and unfolds, giving the next person’s result in the order of the “Who draws (in order)” list. You can also tap any ticket you like to draw it.

  4. 4. Share the results

Every result is kept next to its name in “All results” at the bottom. Tap “Copy results” to copy them as “Name: result”, ready to paste into WhatsApp or a group chat.

Good to know before you start

  • There’s no way to share the same draw with people in other places. Look at one screen together, or copy the results and send them.
  • Names, results and draws in progress are saved only in this browser. They don’t carry over to other devices.
  • If you use it for bets involving money or prizes, follow the rules of the event and the law.

How the Ghost Leg stays fair

A paper Ghost Leg with only a few rungs tends to send people straight down to the result below them. This tool first decides who gets which result using the browser’s cryptographic random numbers (crypto.getRandomValues), so every arrangement is equally likely. Only then does it build the rungs to lead to that result. However many rungs there are and however they’re laid out, every player is equally likely to land on every result.

The lucky draw works the same way: the tickets are shuffled evenly at the start. Whether you press “Draw” or pick a ticket yourself, the chance of winning is the same. Drawn tickets aren’t put back, so the number of winning tickets stays exactly as you set it.

FAQ

Answers to common questions before you start.

Are the names I enter sent anywhere?

No. Both Ghost Leg and the lucky draw run only inside the browser on your device, and names and results are never sent to a server.

Is it really fair?

Yes. It first decides who gets which result using the browser’s cryptographic random numbers (crypto.getRandomValues), so every arrangement is equally likely, and then builds the rungs. There’s no bias like “few rungs means you land straight below”.

How many people can play?

2 to 30. Use “Add a player” to add one at a time, and the − at the end of a row to remove one. With many players, you can scroll the board sideways on a phone. Names and results can each be up to 30 characters.

Can I have a few winners and make the rest blanks?

Yes. In “Results (bottom)”, type “Prize” in as many boxes as you want winners. Rows added with “Add a player” get “No win” as their result.

Can I keep the results hidden until the end?

In Ghost Leg, turn on “Hide results” and the results at the bottom show “?” until a line reaches them. In the lucky draw, you can’t see what’s on a ticket until it’s drawn.

Can I change how long the ladder is?

Yes. Pick “Short”, “Medium” or “Long” under “Ladder length”. A longer ladder has more rungs and a taller board. Whatever the length, every player is equally likely to land on every result.

What’s the difference between Ghost Leg and the lucky draw?

In Ghost Leg, each line runs from a name at the top to a result at the bottom, so everyone can enjoy watching the board. In the lucky draw, people draw one ticket each in name order, which suits drawing in turn from a set number of winning tickets. Both use the same names and results.

How do I start over?

Press “Reshuffle” below the board for new rungs (or, in the lucky draw, a fresh shuffle of the tickets). Once everyone has a result, the big button changes to “Reshuffle”.

Will my names and draw still be there next time?

Yes. Names, results and a draw in progress are saved in this browser, so you can reopen the page and pick up where you left off.

Can I send the results to everyone?

“Copy results” under “All results” copies the text with one “Name: result” per line. Paste it into a chat or email to send it.

There’s no sound.

Sound effects start off. Turn them on with the speaker button at the top right of the board. On iPhone, there may be no sound while the silent switch is on.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up and no ads.
